How do I stop the birds from hitting the window?

I live in a very forested area, and as a result, have many, many birds frequent our property. Unfortunately, we have double-paned, solar-reflective windows in which the birds fly in to.

I%26#039;ve left them dirty this year (my neighbours must love me!) and trimmed the tree branches that are anywhere near the windows. The bird feeders have always been away from the windows, as well.

I%26#039;ve replaced my curtains with light-weight cotton ones because I just couldn%26#039;t stand the darkness having them closed. Now they can still be closed, but light comes through nicely. But there is still that reflection on the window outside, no matter what.

Last spring I put up these reflective strips; it has cut down the amount of birds flying into the window, but not completely.

What can I do? What can I put on the window? Has anyone had this problem, even with precautions? If so, what have you done?

I walk on eggshells waiting to hear that hollow %26#039;thunk%26#039;... it%26#039;s sooo disturbing.

Help??

How do I stop the birds from hitting the window?
I saw this on t.v. a year ago, it was not on the market then.

Reply:put something in front of the window so they see it and don%26#039;t hit it.
Reply:Put the plastic owls outside, about 3 feet from the windows....worked for me.
Reply:My father hung bird feeders on the house, on the outside that stuck to the window, it stops the birds from crashing into the glass.
Reply:Places like Lowe%26#039;s and Home Depot sell bird silhouettes that cling to the window. These are supposed to scare the real birds away from the window. Also, you can buy a plastic owl statue for the same reason. The problem is the bird sees his reflection in the window and tries to run the invader off his territory.
Reply:Hand old xmas tree tinsel(thin strips) .The movement and reflection will scare the birds.
